"This game, is, without a doubt, the best starter set for any collectable card game I have ever played. Complete with 4 core decks that are playable straight out of the box, 24 neutral cards, 12 previews of the upcoming expansion and loads of other stuff.

Each of the four core armies (Orc, Chaos, Empire and Dwarves) have different styles of play. The Orcs like to smash things. The Chaos are bent on corruption, growing stronger by subverting the enemy. The Dwarves think the best offence is a good defence. While Empire enjoy fast moving, hard hitting troops.

The components in the game are beautiful. The four capital boards and the tokens are all thick card with a linen finish and they really help to bring the theme of this game alive on the table top. The box itself is as big as a house, at least when compared to the contents, but that said, it is possibly one of the sturdiest boxes I’ve ever owned and there is enough room inside to contain the next five years worth of expansions, maybe more.

Warhammer: Invasion is an LCG, or a Living Card Game. This means there is no luck of the draw when buying expansions. You know exactly what you’re buying and you don’t have to spend a fortune to get all the rare cards. FFG are releasing a new battlepack every month with 40 cards, (20 new cards are designed for each pack).

The game itself is very simple to learn but the tactics involved are very intense. Each player has three zones they must defend. Playing into different zones allows you to increase your resources, card draw and battlefield prowess. Balancing these three important elements can be a challenge, especially as each race plays in a different way. For example playing defensively with the Orcs is a good way to get splattered. The aim is to burn 2 of your opponents zones, first to do that wins.

The Kingdom management side of this game gives it the illusion of a Eurogame, while the smash your neighbour side of things really brings out your Ameritrash side. This is a great game, a blend of styles, with a great theme, some lovely artwork and great components. Currently only two player, with Multiplayer rules to follow in the High Elves/Dark Elves companion set."
